Enable Two-Step Authentication in DirectAdmin

Two-Step Authentication in DirectAdmin

Setting up two-step authentication (2FA) in DirectAdmin enhances the security of your account by requiring a second form of verification in addition to your password. Here are the steps to set up 2FA in DirectAdmin:

Prerequisites:

  • Access to your DirectAdmin account
  • A smartphone with an authentication app (such as Google Authenticator, Authy, etc.)

Steps to Enable Two-Step Authentication in DirectAdmin:

  1. Log in to DirectAdmin:
  2. Access Two-Step Authentication Settings:
    • Once logged in, navigate to the “Two-Step Authentication” section. This is typically found under the “Extra Features” menu.
  3. Enable Two-Step Authentication:
    • Click on the “Enable Two-Step Authentication” button.
  4. Scan the QR Code:
    • A QR code will appear on the screen. Open your authentication app on your smartphone.
    • In the authentication app, select the option to add a new account (this is often done by selecting a “+” or “Add” button).
    • Scan the QR code displayed on the DirectAdmin screen using your phone’s camera. The app will then add your DirectAdmin account and start generating 6-digit codes.
  5. Verify the Authentication Code:
    • After scanning the QR code, the authentication app will generate a 6-digit code.
    • Enter the 6-digit code from the app into the “Verification Code” field in DirectAdmin.
    • Click “Verify” or “Submit” to confirm the code.
  6. Backup Codes (Optional but Recommended):
    • DirectAdmin may provide backup codes that you can use if you ever lose access to your authentication app. Save these backup codes in a secure place.
  7. Complete the Setup:
    • Once the code is verified, two-step authentication will be enabled for your account.

Testing the Setup:

  • Log out of DirectAdmin and try logging back in. After entering your username and password, you should be prompted to enter a 6-digit code from your authentication app.
  • Enter the code to complete the login process.

Managing Two-Step Authentication:

  • If you need to disable two-step authentication or update your authentication settings, return to the “Two-Step Authentication” section in DirectAdmin.

By following these steps, you can enhance the security of your DirectAdmin account with two-step authentication.
